How to
Using your chart file with ChatGPT
ChatGPT cannot compute a genuine birth chart from scratch. If you provide your date, time, and city, it will gladly generate a horoscope that looks convincing, but the planetary degrees, ascendant, and dasha dates will be hallucinated. Language models predict the next likely word; they do not run astronomical ephemeris calculations.
However, when you feed ChatGPT a pre-computed, auditable birth chart file, it transforms into a tireless research assistant that can synthesize complex placements without losing its context.
The four steps
1Download and save your .md file
Your reading arrives as a single
.mddocument by email. Save it to your Downloads, Documents, or iCloud/Google Drive folder.2Open ChatGPT in your browser or app
Go to chatgpt.com or launch the mobile/desktop app. Both free and Plus tiers work smoothly with file uploads.
3Attach the file directly
Click the + icon or paperclip to attach your
.mdfile. Never paste raw text into the input box; uploading the document preserves tables, planetary coordinates, and dasha dates.4Enforce the citation prompt
Start your session with this exact instruction: “Answer only using facts from the attached chart file. State the house, planetary dignity, and dates behind every claim.”
Works on both free accounts and ChatGPT Plus. Setup takes about two minutes.
High-impact prompts to ask your chart file
Your file is formatted in clean Markdown specifically so language models can index sections by heading. Here are four high-value questions to ask:
- “Based on my 10th house lord, D-10 divisional placements, and current Mahadasha, what work environments does my chart favor?”
- “What are my active dasha and antardasha dates for the next three years, and which houses do those planets activate?”
- “Summarize the condition of Venus and Jupiter in my chart, including any cancellations or dignities noted in the file.”
- “Which topics does my file explicitly state it does not cover?”
Free tier vs. ChatGPT Plus (Projects)
On the free version of ChatGPT, you can attach your file to any standard chat. If you have a ChatGPT Plus or Team subscription, creating a Custom Projectallows you to keep your chart file persistently uploaded in memory, so every new question remembers your foundational planetary positions automatically.
Where ChatGPT can stumble
- Inventing future transits: Do not ask ChatGPT to calculate where Saturn will be next year. Ask it only how transits described in your file apply to your natal houses.
- Drifting into generic sun-sign pop astrology: If you do not include the citation rule, the model defaults to standard internet horoscopes. Keep it tethered to your file.
- Context window limits in very long chats: If a conversation extends over dozens of turns, start a fresh chat and re-attach your file to restore sharp responses.
Other ways to explore your file
The exact same file works in Claude, which excels at holding large documents in single-view context, in NotebookLMfor strict source grounding, or in Obsidian as a personal journal vault. If you do not have your file yet, explore theguide to AI birth charts or view our full readings on theorder page.
