The short answer: a chart can show whether the placements the tradition associates with distance, foreign lands and displacement are prominent in your case, and it can date the periods when those placements run the clock. It cannot approve a visa, and no combination of planets has ever cleared an immigration queue.

That sounds obvious written down. It is worth saying because “foreign settlement yoga” is sold as a verdict to people who are about to spend serious money on applications, and the gap between an indication and an outcome is where that money disappears.

Which placements are actually read

Four things, and they are read together rather than as a checklist:

  • The twelfth house. In the classical vocabulary it covers what is distant, private and outside the familiar — foreign lands, seclusion, expenditure, and things done away from home. It is the house most directly associated with living elsewhere.
  • The fourth house — home, roots, the base you are leaving. Migration is read as much in what is disturbed as in where you arrive.

  • The ninth and tenth, where the move is for study or for work — which is most moves, and which the “settlement” framing tends to flatten.

What a “yoga” is and is not

A yoga is a named combination — a shorthand for a configuration that a text considered worth flagging. The name is a label, not a guarantee, and the same configuration is described in different texts with different weight.A chart holding a foreign-settlement combination is a chart in which that theme is live; it is not an approval.

What the chart contributes

  • Whether the distance-related houses are prominent or quiet
  • Which periods activate them, with start and end dates
  • Whether the move reads as study, work, marriage or relocation of the base
  • Which windows are supported and which are not

What decides the outcome

  • The immigration policy of a country you did not choose the rules of
  • Your qualifications, funds, employer and timing
  • A consular officer on a given morning
  • Whether you actually applied

The honest version of the reading

Done properly, this question produces a paragraph like: the twelfth house is activated across these dates; the period lord governing it runs from here to here; the move reads as work rather than study; the supported stretch is this eighteen-month band. That is genuinely useful if you are deciding when to apply, when to move savings, or which year to target.

Used as a calendar it is valuable. Used as a permission slip it is dangerous — because people stop preparing when they have been told it is destined, and preparation is the part that actually moves the application.

Two claims to be careful with

“Your chart shows settlement abroad, so it will happen.”Charts show dispositions. The number of people with strong twelfth-house activity who never left their home city is large, and the tradition has always known it — which is why the older texts read these placements fordistance from the familiar in a broad sense, not for a passport.

“Your partner’s chart will decide it.” This is asked constantly, and the honest answer is that a reading of your chart cannot make claims about somebody else’s without their details and their consent. Two charts can be read side by side when both people want that; one chart cannot be used to draw conclusions about a person who never sat down for it.

When to time it
