The short answer: a birth chart can tell you whichperiods of your life are structurally disposed toward partnership, and those periods are computable to the minute. It cannot tell you the date of a wedding. Anyone who has given you a year was making a judgement and presenting it as arithmetic — and the two are not the same thing.

That distinction is the whole subject, so it is worth being precise about where the line falls.

What is actually computed

Three things in this question are arithmetic, and none of them is controversial among people who do the work:

  • The period sequence. The dasha system divides a life into periods and sub-periods whose lengths follow from the Moon’s exact position at birth. Given a birth time, the boundaries are fixed. They can be printed with start and end timestamps, and two practitioners using the same ayanamsa will produce the same dates.
  • The placements that govern partnership. The seventh house, the planet that rules it, Venus as the significator of partnership, and Jupiter where the tradition reads it for a partner — all of these are positional facts about a moment.
  • Transits. Where the slow planets sit relative to those placements, on any date you care to name, past or future.

None of that is prophecy. It is astronomy plus a stated set of rules, and the rules are written down in the corpus this site publishes its reading of in the reference library.

What is not computed, and cannot be

A wedding is an event involving at least two people, both of their families in most of the world, money, migration, timing that neither party fully controls, and a decision that either of them can reverse the week before.No chart contains the other person’s chart. A reading that names your wedding date is making a claim about someone whose birth details it does not have.

What a chart can state

  • Which periods and sub-periods favour partnership, with dates
  • Whether the seventh house and its lord are supported or under strain
  • Where Venus and Jupiter sit, and what the tradition reads from that
  • When a period governing partnership opens and closes
  • Which windows repeat, and which pass once

What it cannot

  • A wedding date
  • Who the person will be, by name, place or profession
  • Whether a specific introduction will convert
  • Anything about a partner whose birth details it does not hold
  • That marriage will happen at all, to anyone
The same question, split along the only line that matters: what follows from the arithmetic, and what is an opinion wearing its clothes.

How a window is actually read

The method is less mystical than the marketing suggests. You look for the periods in which the planets that govern partnership in your chart are the ones running the clock. If the ruler of your seventh house governs a sub-period that opens in a given year, that year is structurally disposed toward partnership questions — meetings, decisions, pressure, sometimes endings. If the significator of partnership is simultaneously well placed by transit, the disposition is stronger.

A window is a tendency with dates on it, not a promise.Two people with the same window will have different years, because one of them was introduced to somebody and the other spent it working. The chart describes the weather; it does not decide whether you go outside.

Why the dates you were given did not hold

If an astrologer has named you a year and it passed, there are four ordinary explanations before you reach for a mystical one:

  1. The birth time was approximate. Period boundaries move by several days for every minute of error, and the ascendant — which decides which house is the seventh — can change sign entirely inside a fifteen-minute window. A chart built on “around 3 pm” is a chart built on a range.
  2. A different ayanamsa was used. The correction applied between the tropical and sidereal zodiac differs between schools by enough to move a planet into the next house. Most tools do not tell you which one they used. This is worth understanding once, because it silently changes every conclusion downstream.
  3. A window was reported as an event. “This period favours partnership” became “you will marry in 2024” somewhere between the chart and the conversation, usually because the second sentence is what the client wanted to hear.
  4. The period was real and you were busy. Windows do not execute themselves.

The delay question, briefly

Most people asking about timing are really asking why it has not happened yet. That question has its own honest answer — a small number of chart-level factors and a large number of ordinary ones — and it is worked through separately inwhy marriage is delayed, and what a chart can actually explain.

What to do with a timing reading

Use it as a calendar, not as a verdict. If a supported window opens in eighteen months, that is a reason to be introduced to people, to finish the move you keep postponing, to have the conversation you have been avoiding — inside those months rather than outside them. If the window is open now and nothing is happening, the chart is not the variable to work on.

And if someone offers to fix the timing for a fee, ask them which placement they propose to change. The answer is always none.
