What kind of text this is
Openly a compilation - the translator calls Vaidyanatha ‘the compiler’ and identifies borrowed slokas (e.g. from Badarayana). Dated by prosopography from Grahalaghava (1520 AD) back through the guru chain.
What it contributed
dating-by-prosopography — novel. Dates its author from Grahalaghava (1520 AD) back through a guru chain to 1425-1450 AD.
The corpus’s best-argued dating, and a direct contrast with BPHS’s circular self-dating.
free-will-explicit — novel. ‘To be fore-warned is to be fore-armed… it only remains for one to use one’s will power.’
Clearest free-will statement in the corpus, from a traditional preface rather than a modern reframing.
lost-texts — novel. Bibliography of ten works already lost, including a ‘Yavana Hora’.
The surviving corpus is a survival sample. Another Greek-derived node, now gone.
What we do not carry from it
- translator’s preface — A physical-influence claim that does not survive contact with known gravitation and radiation at planetary distances. Nothing in the reading method requires it - the structural claims work as correlational pattern. Retire the mechanism, keep the technique.
- translator’s preface — Survivorship bias stated as proof. No count of predictions made, no record of failures, no comparison against chance. This is the argument that calibration scoring replaces.
